Jonathan Bloom
 
Jonathan Bloom began his cello studies in Berkeley with Margaret Rowell. His teachers included Colin Hampton, Laszlo Varga, Irene Sharp, and Zara Nelsova. Mr. Bloom performed in master classes of Pierre Fournier, Nelsova, and Janos Starker. While an undergraduate at Princeton University, he played recitals in the University concert series, and he also pursued his cello studies with Leonard Rose and Lorne Munroe at the Juilliard School of Music. Mr. Bloom was already playing professionally as a member of the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra at the age of sixteen. He has performed in numerous cello-piano recitals and chamber music concerts in Europe and the United States. Upon moving to France in 1988, he toured as a member of several Parisian chamber orchestras including the Stajic Chamber Orchestra for which he played principal cello. He also played solo cello with members of the Atlanta Symphony in Robert Shaw's Chorale concert tour of France. Mr. Bloom was a member of the Turin Radio Symphony (RAI) that gives weekly broadcast concerts and tours extensively in Italy. He continues to play chamber music in Europe and has given a number of concerts in the Bay Area with his sisters, Madeline and Claudia.
